Its been a while since this was talked about but I think we should try and get a screening going somewhere.

I dont know where, but if someone has some room at there house maybe we can get a few people together there?

Does anyone have any ideas?

cheers

Do you know somewhere in Cornwall where we can hold screenings free or very cheaply? The building which houses M-Mad is being redeveloped so we're currently homeless.

Please don't just post random places - go and speak to the owner/landlord to see if there's any possibility first!

Since the Facebook group was created, everything seems to have moved across to pages. Pages let you publish messages straight to people's news feeds so it makes sense to have one.

That's right, this is a brand new event coming to Cornwall Anime!

The anime screenings at M-Mad studios will now also be the venue of a casual cosplay competition!

The theme, as is says up there, is villains! This can be from anything including comics, video games, movies and anything else you can think of!

The entry price for entering the cosplay competition is £1, this is to help us cover the cost of the prizes.

Rest assured, the first prize is worth more than £1!

Of course, there is one very important rule;
You cannot enter something that someone else has made professionally.
eg. +You made the costume from scratch from your own materials.
+ You bought all the different items of clothing from a clothing store and modified them.

-You bought the costume off eBay.
If in doubt, ask! (:

I had to cancel July's event after almost everyone pulled out and it became unviable. This thread is to discuss the organisation's future - and whether or not it has one.

Since the start we have consistently had around 10 people turn up. Each event takes time and effort to organise and money to promote and M-Mad have very kindly allowed us to use their venue extremely cheaply.

I appreciate that Launceston is not ideal for everyone, but no one has arranged anywhere else for us to hold screenings. I am aware that there are many anime fans in the town and within easy driving distance who are not attending the events. Anime is a niche interest and if fans within walking distance of the venue aren't interested then there seems little point in continuing.

I have tried to ensure we're screening the shows people want to watch by allowing everyone to propose and vote for the schedule, but very few people do this. If they're not coming because they don't want to watch what is being shown, it seems odd that they are not proposing alternatives.

Does anyone think it is worth continuing or should we call it a day?

Jade // 20.06.2010 @ 6:03 pm

As we can only play region 2 DVDs at M-Mad (and not imports or downloads), owner Krystyna has kindly said we can spend entry fee money on compatible DVDs. These will belong to M-Mad and will be kept there for us to watch at screenings.

We took £29 last month and I have just ordered Ponyo for £10.02 as I know this is something lots of us would love to see on the big screen.

Please use this thread to suggest DVDs you would like me to order. Play.com and Amazon have dozens of volume ones on sale for less than £5 so I'm thinking it would be a good idea to get some of these so we have plenty of first episodes to show.

Any comments or suggestions about how to spend the remaining £18.98? Does anyone have any decent anime films, OVAs, volume ones or complete series they would like to sell to the club for cheaper than we could buy them online? If no one has any preferences I'll pick up whatever bargains I can.

It's that time again! Nominate the films and episodes you would like to be put to the vote for July's screening.

In order to nominate something you must have it (or definitely be able to borrow it) on DVD. Alternatively, you can nominate something which someone has posted on these forums saying they own. Please make your suggestions by the end of the weekend so they can be put to the vote.

Please vote for one film and one episode. The poll will be open until Friday.

Cornwall Anime will be holding its Launceston Launch Night at 7.30pm on Wednesday, March 10 at M-Mad (http://www.m-mad.co.uk/). We will be screening Howl's Moving Castle and the first episode of Excel Saga.

M-Mad has a large screen, professional sound system and projector hooked up. There is plenty of seating including comfy sofas.

M-Mad is located on Priory Lane just off St Thomas' Road. Priory Lane is opposite the Railway Inn and M-Mad is the first door on the left. You can park for free at Co-op on Newport Industrial Estate.

We are allowed to bring food in so you might want to stock up at Co-op or buy fish and chips from The Codfather. Keep It Secret (http://www.keep-it-secret.co.uk/) will have a stall so you will have the chance to purchase Japanese snacks to munch while you watch or take away. We will also have a stall for you to buy and sell your old anime, manga, figures and games.

People are coming from Plymouth and many different areas of Cornwall. If you would like to lift share, ask in this thread.

Please post below to suggest anime to screen. Howl's Moving Castle and Shaman King have already been proposed. We need to decide asap what we're showing so that we can advertise this properly.

You are asked to make a contribution of £3 to help cover the cost of the room.

It's basically a massive show for fans of manga, anime, Asian film and comics. There are screenings, competitions, music and lots of companies have stalls.

Westcountry Anime have been asked by the organisers of Armadacon, a cross-media (SF / Fantasy / Cult Media) convention in Plymouth, to host a weekend long anime stream as part of their 21st convention.

Anime @ ArmadaCon aims to present an insight into Japanese culture, Anime and Manga, while trying to be in keeping with Armadacon's Sci-Fi and Fantasy theme.

Registration is available as part of a full Armadacon Membership, or alteratively day passes to the Anime @ Armadacon event for a smaller fee.

*Events Will Include*

8-Bit Games Panel:
Do you remember the era of chiptunes, 64 colours and awesome side-scrolling games? We do, and we're bringing you a presentation of all the best games from the 8-Bit era. From Mario to Zelda, Mega Man to Solar Jetman, and the sublime River City Ransom, we'll be taking you on the best nostalgia trip since Spandau Ballet's comeback tour. Wait, scratch that last bit...

Anime Screenings:
Well, it's what we're here for, right? We're selecting the best of the best Sci-Fi & fantasy Anime and screening them in hour blocks. A chance to sit back and relax in between events.

Artists' Corner:
A chance to put your artistic skills to the test for fun and for competition. Either draw whatever you like and put it up on our artists wall, or take part in one of our numerous competitions to try and win a prize. This will be running in the background across both days.

General Gaming:
we'll also have some general gaming sessions running in the background. From nostalgic NES classics to the Bullet Curtain mania of the Tohou series, we'll be bringing in a range of classic games both new and old for your enjoyment. There will also be some Gaming Tournaments.

Itasha Racing:
For those not familiar with the concept of Itasha, it's a bit like Pimp My Ride, but with Anime characters. While we don't have a full Itasha car to drive around (which is probably a good thing), we have RC cars to race around our test track instead. Stig helmet not required.

East Meets West:
We'll discuss how western Sci-Fi & Fantasy has influenced anime, and visa versa.

Registration for the full covention is £35 but if you only want entry to the anime bit there will be a discount rate which is yet to be decided.
